Monday 28th September 2020
Friends,
Herewith our Night Prayer (Compline) for this week please use the template previously sent out.
I have been struck how over the past months of Covid-19 it has at times felt as though we are like exiles. Exiled from our churches, from other homes, from traveling, from contact with one another. This however, is not unknown for the people of God whether in the time of Amos or Isaiah, Daniel or Ezra. The persecutions of Christians in the early church amounted to exile within the Empire. Even within the Church there have been exiles who for the sake of religious conscience found themselves in exile; the Pilgrim Fathers are a classic case as were the Puritans of the 16th century, particularly those subject to the great ejection from the Church of England in 1662.
Zoom and Youtube have offered glimpses of hope, one day we will be united together and able to worship God collectively. I pray that might be sooner rather than later.
